Help with Exam Stress?
I find it extremely difficult to cope with exam stress. I have 4 and half months until my final exams, but I’m extremely worried and unfortunately I’m inadvertently making myself physically ill with it. My prelim results (my pre-exam results) are as follows(bearing in mind this is Credit and General levels- Credit is the hardest grade to achieve and is 1’s and 2’s, General is easier and is 3’s and 4’s, and Foundation is extremely simple and is 5’s and 6’s):
History – 1
Chemistry – 3 (nearly a 2)
Maths – 5
Physics – 4 (nearly a 2)
English – 2
French – 1
Drama – 1
Music – 1
These don’t entirely reflect my actual ability, for example I’m generally a 3 for Maths, 2 for both Chemistry and Physics, and 1 for English, but I don’t seem to get these results in exams. I’m absolutely terrified. And the usual breathing techniques and self-hypnosis really don’t help me at all. Please help?
I think everyone gets worried about exams, no matter how close/far away they are from it. I was worried for like a year, and when it got to the actual thing, they were a lot easier than I thought.
Basically, worrying makes it worse. You knew that. The only way to really cope with exam stress is to make an exam timetable, giving yourself realistic times in the day to do it, and realistic amounts of time like two hours a day. The more the worry, the more you’ll probably put revision off and the less prepared you’ll actually be.
ps, you’ve got ages yet, and it might seem like a lot of exams, but 4 months is 120 days, and a quarter of a year and you’ve got PLENTY of time for revision. Don’t feel inclined to revise like mad now. Just a bit of advice. ;]
